HOW TO CHOOSE YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER
So you’ve been to a wedding expo, found lots of wonderful suppliers and feel just as confused or more than last week? Here are a few ideas to keep in mind to help with the process of choosing the right photographer for you.
Establish your budget for photography
Have a think about how much you are happy to spend on your photography. As a general rule this can be from 10-20% of your total wedding budget. It is a good idea to have a price range for photography for when you start meeting with photographers later on.
What do you want from your photographer?
Would you like a beautiful custom designed and hand made album or would you prefer to make your own and just receive the digital files from your photographer? Some photographers will offer one or the other, some will offer both.
Find some photographers whose work you like
Check if they are available as soon as possible. If you are keen on a photographer, it is a good idea to check their availability as they can only be at one wedding on any given date. While there are 365 days in a year, most couples are only willing to get married on under 100 of them!
Go and meet with them
No matter how well they tick all the other boxes, if your personalities aren’t the right fit, they aren’t the right person for you. By the time your photographer goes home on your wedding day, they will have spent more time with each of you than you will have spent with each other. You need to be 100% comfortable and confident that your photographer understands your vision and that you can work together to create the best results for you.
And remember…
You only get one go at having your wedding documented and your photography is likely to be the only momento you will have from this day 20 years from now!
